Congratulations on your move to Nashville! You’re about to join one of the best school systems in the country; but there’s some work to do before your child’s first day of class. Here are three things you should add to your to-do list:
Make A Point Of Meeting The Teacher
It’s amazing how many parents out there these days are perfectly okay with just sending their child off to be in the care of someone that they haven’t met. Before getting your child into a Nashville school, figure out who their teacher is and make a point of meeting them. Remember, this is the adult that will play a large part in shaping the future and mind of your child. You want this to be a person that you agree with and can keep a presence up with.
Find Some Extracurriculars
A vast majority of the students in the Nashville school system participate in some type of after school program. Sports and music are the big two in this area, so if you can get your child interested in one of these programs it will go a long way towards helping them fit in at their new school. Take any opportunities to get them playing with other children outdoors – there’s a lot to do in our temperate climate. There are off campus options for you as well, and many of these places will transport your kid from school and to your home.
Stay Open With Your Child(ren)
Moving to a new school (or going to their first school) can be quite the endeavor for any child. Make sure you’re getting their feelings and opinions often. This small gesture makes your kid feel like they’re part of the process, and will make it much easier for them to settle into their new life. This is all about your child and their future after all, shouldn’t they feel like they have some say?
There’s a lot of work to get done, so go put this advice to use today. It will make the transition much smoother. Before you know it, you’ll feel like you’ve been here your whole life!
